Do pat softly.

Don’t pat your cat so hard that they shake their head—the same way a dog who’s trying to dry off would—indicating that they are uncomfortable. If your cat shakes their head or attempts to bite or scratch you when you’re using The Skritcher® take a break from using it until your cat signals for you to continue.

Do pat your cat on alternate sides of their body when patting. Never only use The Skritcher® on one area of their your cat’s head or body for more than a few seconds at a time to reduce the risk of their discomfort.

Don’t pat The Skritcher® on your cat’s head. 

Do rub The Skritcher® across your cat’s scent glands atop their head in front of and behind their ears and across their cheeks behind their whiskers.

Don’t pat your cat if they start biting or scratching at you. That’s their way of saying they’re not in the mood for Skritches right now. Please respect their space.

Do have a chew toy (preferably a Skritcher chew toy) and/or scratching post within your cat’s reach while using The Skritcher® on them—cats need to chew on something and/or rub their head and scent glands against an item while their back is being Skritched. This is extremely important because the usage of The Skritcher® on cats triggers their primal instincts to chew on things. Provide your cat with a (Skritcher) chew toy while using The Skritcher® to maximize your cat’s experience. 

Don’t allow your cat to chew on The Skritcher®.

• • If your cat begins to aggressively groom themselves, please take a break from using The Skritcher® to allow your cat time to calm down from possibly getting over-stimulation. Instead, please give your cat a different kind of attention, such as gently grooming their coat with a partially damp cloth to calm them down. Of course, after letting them smell it first.

• • When your cat flops (lays) down, pause with using The Skritcher®.  Let your cat relax and signal to you that they are ready for The Skritcher® again, which may happen in 5 mins or less.

• • Be aware of whether or not your cat is scratching at you or trying to bite you in order to get you to continue using The Skritcher® on them, or if your cat is just signaling that they are hungry bc The Skritcher® may causes cats to have an appetite.

• • If your cat starts shaking their heads, even once, it means something hurt them because that’s how cats express pain or discomfort.

• •  A couple signs that your cat is completely satisfied and possibly needs a break are if your cat quickly lays down while breathing heavily, possibly wagging its tail. Pay close attention to that and pause using The Skritcher® until your cat begins to request it from you again.

• • Also, flapping its tail on the ground could mean they’re hungry, and/or too excited to continue. Pause using The Skritcher® if you notice this behavior.

• • The Skritcher® keeps your cat’s focus and attention away from your hands during playtime!

• • Cats will mark their scent on The Skritcher® causing them to train you to use The Skritcher® on them whenever they want Skritches during play!
